DFAS Relaxes Password Restrictions

In what might qualify as the most exciting military pay news this year, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) has finally decided to undo some of the arduously challenging password requirements instituted last year.

The most current version of the password requirements include:

  • Must be 9 to 30 characters in length,

  • Contain at least one UPPERCASE letter,

  • Contain at least one lowercase letter,

  • Contain at least one number (0-9),

  • Contain at least one of  special characters (#, @, $, =, +, %, ^, !, *, _)

Additionally, passwords will now expire every 150 days requiring users to change their passwords.

I, personally, am thrilled.  I have received piles of comments and emails from frustrated MyPay users, and I've felt the effects in my own life.  We've just given up and I have my husband do everything at work, where he can log into his account with his Common Access Card.  Not everyone has this option, particularly retirees.  These new, more reasonable password requirements will help all eligible MyPay patrons actually be able to use the MyPay system as intended.

These updates are supposed to be completed today, 17 May 2014.

What do you think?  Are you as excited as I?
