13 September 2013 Military Pay

One week to the next active duty military payday, Friday, 13 September 2013.  When will your pay be in your account?  That depends on your bank or credit union, and maybe even the type of account you use.  Many financial institutions offer early direct deposit of active duty military pay as a benefit to their customers.  Sometimes, it can get a little confusing, especially if your neighbor gets paid before or after you.

Many military friendly banks and credit unions, including USAA and Pacific Marine Credit Union (PMCU), offer direct deposit of active duty military pay "one business day early.  Servicemembers whose financial institutions post deposits one business day early should expect to have their deposits available on Thursday, 12 September 2013.

Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) has two different deposit days depending on which checking account type you use. Active Duty checking customers have access to their deposits one business day early, and all other checking account types have access to their deposits on the actual payday.  If you use an Active Duty checking account, your pay will show as pending on Wednesday, 11 September 2013, to be posted overnight and available for use on Thursday, 12 September 2013.  If you have any other account type, your pay will show as pending on Thursday, 12 September 2013, to be deposited overnight and available for use on Friday, 13 September August 2013.  While pending does mean that the money will be posted, and Navy Federal processed deposits before withdrawals, it still isn't a great idea to count on the money being there.  Stuff could go wrong!

Service Credit Union offers early direct deposit "up to two business days" early, pending receipt of information from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.  This is not a guarantee!  While deposits might occur as early as  Wednesday, 12 September 2013 deposit, please don't spend that money until you see the deposit posted to your account.  (Yes, I know that the deposit was posted on Wednesday the last time payday was on a Friday.  I'm just saying - don't get caught if things don't happen that way this time.)

Lots of folks ask me what time their pay will be deposited.  It can be anytime!  See What Time Will I Get Paid?  for more information.

If payday has come and gone, and you haven't seen your deposit post, check out the steps in Why Hasn’t My Pay Been Deposited? for more information.
