Charity Spotlight: Honor Their Service

I love highlighting military-focused service organizations for two reasons.  First, some of my readers might be able to benefit from their help.  Second, military folks like to help other military folks, so maybe you'll send a bit of your charitable money towards these fine groups.

This week, I am delighted to write about Honor Their Service.  Honor Their Service was founded in 2008 by three Marine Corps wives and a volunteer at RAMC.  Their mission is to provide wounded warriors and their families comfort and assistance, support their efforts to lead productive and independent lives, and to assure all military veterans that their efforts and sacrifices are appreciated and will not be forgotten.

In fulfillment of their mission, Honor Their Service has a few different projects.  First, they regularly run Operation Fresh Air events, where wounded service members and their families are able to enjoy an afternoon of fun and relaxation away from the DC area hospitals they currently call home.  In conjunction with other service organizations, Honor Their Service provides food, fishing, fresh air and other entertainment in a pleasant outdoor environment.  They also work with other organizations to support a variety of different wounded warrior related projects, with financial assistance, referrals to other helpful organizations, or just a general answering of questions about how to help and how to get started.

If you are interested in supporting Honor Their Service, you can rest assured that your donation will be used completely to help our country's wounded warriors.  Honor Their Service is entirely volunteer-run, so there are no salaries to pay.  Honor Their Service is a 501 (c) (3) public charity under the IRS code, which means that they meet the qualifications to be an official non-profit organization.  As such, you can deduct any donations to Honor Their Service under the charitable deductions part of your tax return.

I know some of the people involved with Honor Their Service, and they are selfless, giving, and generally great people.  If you are looking for a military-focused charity to support, this might just be it.  Our wounded warriors are sure to appreciate it.
