Hopeful News for MyCAA

So, I’m at the MOAA (Military Officer Association of America) Spouse Symposium in Virginia Beach, and I heard a neato rumor:  Based upon some comments made by Secretary Gates, it seems likely that the MyCAA program might be reopening to new applicants within the next few months.  Again, this is completely unsubstantiated, but I suggest that you keep your eyes and ears open so that we don’t miss it if it happens.  As we’ve seen, this benefit is definitely not permanent and we’re going to have to jump on it when it reopens.

I hope it does open back up for others. I am already in the MyCAA program and just found out that when they brought the program back online in March, they made a change they did not advertize. Now all the available funds must be used by the time the active duty member separates from service. This is definitely the opposite of what I was told when I first applied.

This was very disappointing to me as I was expecting to use the balance of funds in my acct in the next month. I know they have to make changes to make the money last but they should have grandfathered those already in the program or at the very least sent out some sort of notice so we were not caught unaware.

  • Everyone, I hope that you also read the accompanying article about the actual quote. Click on the MyCAA tab on the left hand side of this page, as that will bring it to the most up-to-date information.

I’m new to the military and I have no idea what MyCAA is. Can someone give me a brief explanation, please?
