It's a week to the next military payday, Friday, 14 October 2016.  Friday paydays are usually pretty straightforward, as long as there isn't a holiday on Thursday or something else unusual.  Even those who have early direct deposit can easily count backwards without having to figure out how their bank or credit union deals with weekends.  So, when will your Friday, 14 October 2016 military pay show up in your bank account?

If you don't use a bank or credit union that offers early direct deposit as a benefit to its members, then you should expect to see your pay deposited at some time on Friday, 14 October 2016.  The time may vary dramatically even if your financial institution is usually pretty consistent.

If you use a bank or credit union that offers early direct deposit as a benefit to its members, then you can count backwards however many days you receive your pay early.  Or you can read on...

USAA

USAA offers to deposit military pay one business day prior to the actual payday, so USAA members will see their military pay deposited on Thursday, 13 October 2016.  While USAA usually gets deposits in at a pretty regular time, things can and do happen and it can be any time of the day.

Navy Federal Credit Union

Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) can be confusing, and I regularly get emails or comments from people who say, "My neighbor got paid with Navy Federal, and I didn't."  This happens because NFCU has two different deposit dates.  Which deposit date applies to you depends on which type of checking account you use.

NFCU members who use an Active Duty Checking account receive their military pay deposit one business day prior to the actual payday.  For this pay period, Active Duty Checking user will see their military pay deposit pending on Wednesday, 12 October 2016, to be posted overnight and available for use on Thursday, 13 October 2016.

NFCU members who use any other type of checking account, including eChecking, Flagship Checking, Everyday Checking, and Campus Checking, receive their military pay deposit on the actual payday.  For this pay period, those members will see their military pay deposit pending on Thursday, 13 October 2016, to be posted overnight and available for use on Friday, 14 October 2016.

Pacific Marine Credit Union

Pacific Marine Credit Union (PMCU) recently changed their policies to release military pay two business days prior to the actual payday. For this payday, that will be Wednesday, 12 October 2016.

Service Credit Union

Service Credit Union, popular in some overseas locations, credits military pay two business days prior to the actual payday. For this payday, that will be Wednesday, 12 October 2016.

Long Pay Period Coming

This next pay period will be long for most people. The next actual military payday is Tuesday, 1 November 2016 - that's 18 days, 3 weekends, and Halloween. Only those who receive their pay two business days early won't have such a long stretch, and they'll get a long one coming up later to balance things out.
