15 September 2016 Military Pay

Lots of people are wondering when their Thursday, 15 September 2016 military pay will be available in their bank accounts.  Even though the regular payday isn't until 15 September 2016, many military members will see funds available in their account earlier due to the early direct deposit deals offered by their bank or credit union.

USAA

From what I can gather from my readers, the largest group of my readers bank with USAA.  USAA has a clear and guaranteed early direct deposit policy:  active duty military pay will be credited to accounts one business day prior to the actual payday.  For this payday, this means that USAA members will see their deposit in their bank account at some time on Wednesday, 14 September 2016.

Pacific Marine Credit Union

Pacific Marine Credit Union (PMCU) now deposits military pay two business days prior to the actual payday.  For this payday, that will be Tuesday, 13 September 2016.

Navy Federal Credit Union

Paydays can be a little confusing if you bank with Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU).  The day your pay will be deposited depends on the type of account you use for your pay deposits.   The two different deposit dates can cause confusion when two people are talking and one person has received their pay deposit and the other person has not.

If you use an Active Duty Checking account, NFCU will credit your deposit one business day prior to the actual payday.  For this pay period, that will be Wednesday, 14 September 2016.

If you use any other type of checking account, including Everyday Checking, Flagship Checking, Campus Checking, or eChecking, then NFCU will credit your deposit on the actual military payday of Thursday, 15 September 2016.

Don't forget that Navy Federal's deposit process often has a deposit showing as "pending" for a day or two prior to the actual deposit date.  Pending does not mean available for use.  Do not spend that money until it has actually posted to your account!

Service Credit Union

Service Credit Union credits military pay deposits two business days prior to the actual payday.  For this payday, that will be Tuesday, 13 September 2016.

As always, if you do not have a solid reason to believe that your bank or credit union offers early direct deposit, do not expect or spend as if that money will be there earlier.

A heads-up for the planners amongst you, the next long pay period is coming up at the end of October.  Plan accordingly!
