From The Mailbag: MyPay Questions

FacebookXPinterestEmailEmailEmailShare

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) online pay system, myPay, is a great tool for managing your Leave and Earnings Statements (LES), direct deposit information, tax withholding instructions, allotments, Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) contributions, and many other pay related activities.  However, sometimes it is hard to find the right place to take the right actions.

Hello Kate,

Hope you can help... I'm in the process of changing banks and can't find where to change my direct deposit information for my paycheck.   I've looked, looked and still looking.

Appreciate your time and think I need another cup of coffee.

Thanks

I love easier questions!

Dear Cynthia,

I hope by now you have found the answer to your question, but when you log into your MyPay account, one section of the menu should be titled Direct Deposit. For active duty folks, there are three items listed there: Pay, Travel, and Miscellaneous. You have to change each one individually.

If your MyPay menu doesn't have that same section, nose around. It is there somewhere.

Good luck!

Kate

If only all the questions received here at The Paycheck Chronicles were so easily resolved.

Kate -

I have been trying for two weeks to get into mypay.com with no luck. Either e-mail or password incorrect and have no idea why. I have been using mypay.com for the last seven years and never a problem. Now it seems like all heck has been let loose and totally lost. Just want my tax info for 2015. Any help that you can give is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Earl

I really never know what to say to these questions.  I wish I had a magic wand.
Dear Earl,

Without being there, I can't speculate on your exact problem.  The MyPay website has a lot of guidance for all sorts of situations.

In most cases, the "Forgot or Need A Password?" option, located on the left underneath the password box, is the best place to start.  It will take you through a series of questions to determine whether it can reset your password online (if you have previously set up security questions) or if it will have to mail you a new temporary password through the regular mail.

You always have the option of calling the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) at 1-888-332-7411.  There is typically a long wait for telephone assistance, so I'd be sure you have the time to wait and a glass of iced tea or a coffee handy.  Heck, maybe a book, too.

Good luck to you,

Kate
The myPay tool is a fabulous way to have online access to your pay accounts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but it isn't perfect and it isn't always intuitive. I'm always glad to help sort things out whenever possible.
