31 December 2015 Military Pay

Thursday, 31 December 2015 is the last regular, active duty military payday for 2015.  Lots of people have questions about paydays when they fall around the holidays.  Thankfully, this one isn't too complicated.  Military paydays fall on the 1st and 15th of each month, unless that day falls on a weekend or holiday.  Since 1 January is a holiday, the payday slides back to the last business day before the holiday, which is 31 December 2015.  Unless you have some reason to think that your bank or credit union will be depositing your pay earlier, then you should expect to get paid on the 31st.  Financial institutions that I know deposit military pay early include:

USAA

USAA offers early direct deposit of military pay as a benefit to their members.  If your military pay is deposited into an USAA account, you should expect to have your pay deposited one business day early on Wednesday, 30 December 2015.

Navy Federal Credit Union

Navy Federal Credit Union, or NFCU, is always a little tricky for two reasons.  First, the day of your deposit depends on the type of checking account into which you have your pay deposited.  Second, Navy Federal uploads deposits the day before, when they usually show as "pending," and then they are posted overnight to be available for use on the next day.

If you use an Active Duty checking account for your military pay deposit, then you may see your pay pending on Tuesday, 29 December 2015, and it will be posted overnight and available for use on Wednesday, 30 December 2015.

If you use any other type of checking account for your military pay deposit, then you may see your pay pending on Wednesday, 30 December 2015, and it will be posted overnight and available for use on Thursday, 31 December 2015.

If you're not sure what type of checking account you use, you can find that information through your online account access, or you can call Navy Federal, or stop by a branch.  If you'd like to switch to an Active Duty account to take advantage of its many benefits, you can do that online, by phone, or in person.

Pacific Marine Credit Union

Pacific Marine Credit Union, or PMCU, offers early direct deposit of military pay as a benefit to their members.  If your military pay is deposited into a PMCU account, you should expect to have your pay deposited one business day early, on Wednesday, 30 December 2015.

To all my dear readers, best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
