Tell Me Your Questions For USAA

I’ve just landed in San Antonio to attend USAA’s annual outreach conference.  I’ll be spending the next two days hanging out with a great group of military folks, and I’ll have access to USAA people to answer those burning questions that I always want to ask.

I’ve got a list, including an already submitted request for someone to go over the USAA life insurance needs calculator with me.  I’m guessing that you may have some questions that you’ve always wanted to ask USAA, but you never got around to asking (or you didn’t want to have your account flagged for a general informational question.)  If you send your questions to me, either through the comments or through an email to, then I will find out the answers for you.  It’ll be almost like having your own personal USAA liaison.

For those of you who don’t know how far USAA’s influence reach, there are currently over 10 million USAA member using products including:

  • auto insurance,
  • homeowners’ insurance,
  • credit cards,
  • renters insurance,
  • mutual funds,
  • checking and savings accounts,
  • CDs,
  • 529 college savings plans,
  • annuities,
  • individual retirement arrangements,
  • mortgages,
  • auto loans,
  • life insurance,
  • and more!

If you’re still living a transient lifestyle, your needs can be complicated and confusing.  Where do I keep my renter’s insurance while my goods are in non-temporary storage?  What kind of insurance do I need overseas?  Does my credit card have a chip and pin?  There are so many details of life to manage.  I get overwhelmed regularly, especially during this particularly challenging move.  Getting clean answers to your questions can help make life a lot easier.

Therefore, please send me your questions for USAA.  I can’t promise that I will get every single question answered for you, but I definitely will try.  Again, post your questions in the comments or send me an email at  I’ll make a list and try to track down the right people to get clear answers for you.

I’d like to know why their insurance rates haven’t stayed as competitive as those of Geico and other insurers. Back in the day they couldn’t be beat, but last week I called Geico after hearing from numerous people that USAA’s rates sucked and was HIGHLY surprised that they were 600 a year cheaper for the exact same coverage I had through USAA. What happened and will they be changing? (coverage includes 1m on a rental policy, 1m umbrella, 500k homeowners, 30k valuable personal property and 2 cars with 150 liability)

I actually asked USAA this and got nothing but a run around last week, it was disappointing.
