15 August 2013 Military Pay

August 06, 2013 | Kate Horrell

The next regular, active duty military payday is Thursday, 15 August 2013.  However, due to the various policies and procedures of different banks and credit unions, some people may be paid earlier.  In order to guesstimate when you’ll be paid, you’ll need to know your financial institution, your past experience with them, and possibly even which type of account you have.

USAA and Pacific Marine Credit Union (PMCU), as well as some others, offer direct deposit of active duty military pay “one business day early.  Military folks who use banks or credit unions that post deposits one business day early should expect to have their deposits available on Wednesday, 14 August 2013.

Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) has two different paydays depending on what type of checking account your pay is deposited into:  Active Duty checking customers receive their deposits one business day early, all other checking account types receive their deposits on the actual payday.  Navy Federal can also be confusing because of the way the payments are posted.  The information is entered into your account the day prior, and it shows as pending.  Then, it disappears before the end of the business day.  Overnight, all credits and debits get posted.  Then, the actual deposit is available for use the morning of the day you are to receive your deposit.  What does that mean?  If you use an Active Duty checking account, your pay will show as pending on Tuesday, 13 August 2013, to be posted overnight and available for use on Wednesday, 14 August 2013.  If you have any other account type, your pay will show as pending on Wednesday, 14 August 2013, to be deposited overnight and available for use on Thursday, 15 August 2013.

Service Credit Union offers early direct deposit “up to two business days” early, pending receipt of information from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.  However, they do not guarantee it.  It seems likely that deposits will be made on Tuesday, 13 August 2013, but please be safe and don’t spend that money until it has actually been deposited.

Have questions about the pay time?  Pay can be posted at any time during the day.   See What Time Will I Get Paid?  for more information.
