It is very early for a "when is payday" post, but the subject has shot up in the searches that come to The Paycheck Chronicles. I guess early is never early enough.
The next regular, active duty military payday is Monday, 1 April 2013. When that pay will actually be available in your account depends on the policies and practices of your bank or credit union. Monday paydays are always a little confusing, so read carefully and let me know if I've made any errors.
First, let's start with USAA. USAA always releases direct deposited military pay funds one business day early. That means that USAA customers should see their pay funds deposited sometime on Friday, 29 March 2013.
Pacific Marine Credit Union (PMCU) also offers deposits one business day early and so PMCU customers should also see their pay funds deposited sometime on Friday, 29 March 2013.
Service Credit Union offers deposits "up to two business days early." This is not guaranteed and depends on the release of funds from the paying institution. I'm hesitant to post this, but last time there was a Monday payday (1 October 2012), Service Credit Union released active duty military pay on the preceding Thursday. DO NOT make any financial decisions based upon the expectation that you'll be paid on Thursday.
On to Navy Federal Credit Union: when you will be paid depends on what type of checking account you use for your direct deposit. Customers who use an Active Duty checking account for their direct deposit will see their pay pending on Thursday, 28 March 2013, to be posted overnight and available for use on Friday, 29 March 2013. Customers who use any other type of checking account for their direct deposit will see their pay pending on Friday, 29 March 2013, to be posted overnight and available for use on Saturday, 30 March 2013.
Heads up for those of you who like to plan ahead: 1 May 2013 is on a Wednesday. Even banks who pay early will not pay before the weekend. If long pay periods are hard for you, start thinking about it now.
