A common question in my email box is: ”how do I change which bank account my disability payments are deposited to?” That’s a good question, but I only have 2/3 of an answer. I’m looking for readers’ help because I feel confident that I missing something.
On the VA website, I can find two ways to change your direct deposit account information: via telephone and via the mail.
- Via mail, fill out and send the VA Form 24-0296. You can find it here: http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/VBA-24-0296-ARE.pdf. The directions are on the form.
- Via telephone, by calling 1-877-838-2778. I have looked at this one and I wonder how they can verify that you are actually the person calling.
Here’s the question: I feel confident that there is a way to change your direct deposit online, just like active duty and retired folks do. I even think I’ve written about it before. I’ve looked and looked, and I can’t find it anywhere.
So, readers, do you know? I’d appreciate it, and so would the others who are looking for the answers.
Thank you, and happy Saturday!

I am having a hard time with this direct deposit. My bankaccount has been hacked twice already. I don't like losing my money like that, and no one replaces the money.
Then when I talk to the VA adminoffice, they that I have to have an account, but they don't put into consideration what happens at some of the banks.
Marion, I think you need to talk more with your bank. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "hacked," but the money hasn't disappeared. If someone is stealing from your bank account, you need to file a police report. If your bank is not working with you, I would suggest that you change banks. This is not normal. Please get help!
They also have a pay card GoDirect or you may choose another provider like Account Now, Kaiu or any other ATM pay card providers. These cards can be used to pay bills online, purchase products over the phone or any other thing you currently do with your bank atm. They don't seem to have a hacking problem yet and will provide you with alerts for every purchase made.
You may also submit the change by logging on EBENEFITS.VA.GOV WEBPAGE AND DO IT ELECTRONICALLY. It goes right to the va from there.

I just changed my account. It was easily done through eBenefits. Thank you
The easiest way to change it is through E-Benefits.I encourage all veterans to have this account. VA tracks all information that they have on you. You have direct on-line access to do just about anything. If you do not have an account establish one.

How do change that back to just getting a check?
Thomas, federal benefits must be paid via electronic transfers. If you do not like having direct deposit, there is a way for you to have your payments loaded onto a prepaid debit card. Look at <a href="http://www.va.gov” target=”_blank”>www.va.gov for more information.
I live in Korea and cannot figure out how to change the direct deposit. When I call the direct deposit line they have a recording that says they are too busy and call back later. They say I can call back after duty hours and request a call back, but the truth is they will not call an international number. Anyone else had this issue and solved it?
Can I check online to see if the travel pay has been sent to my account??
