Members Only Discount Websites

If you spend any time on the internet, you've probably stumbled across at least one "members only" shopping website.  I'm not going to name names, as I'm trying to put them out of my mind.  These websites require you to register in order to have access to their special, speedy sales.  They do offer great prices on upscale merchandise, but even at a great price, upscale merchandise is often still really expensive.

I went through a phase, maybe a year ago, where I signed up for five or six (or twelve) of these members only websites.  I get daily advertisements from each one.  At first, I would click through and see what was on sale.  The prices still seemed awfully high, and really, we don't need any more stuff in our house.

As time has gone on, I've found that these websites are exactly the opposite of the kind of things that I think that I believe in.  First, I strongly believe in limiting advertising in my life, and yet I've signed up to have multiple ads sent to my email box every day.  Even if I just delete them, the lure of the stuff is still there.  Second, I am attempting to embrace a more minimalist lifestyle.  Being exposed to beautiful goods, on sale, is not a good tactic for minimalism.

I am taking some time today to unsubscribe to these emails.  I think it will be a good thing on many levels.

Do you belong to any of these websites?  Have you ever purchased from them?  What do you think?
