Make Your Own Case Lot Sale

October 24, 2012 | Kate Horrell

One thing that I hate about Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) case lot sales is that they often don’t have products that I am interested in buying.  However, I think I’ve figured out an even better plan.

As you may know, you can make special orders for items at any Commissary store.  There is a form to fill out, and then they try to fulfill your requests.  If you keep an eye on the ever-fluctuating prices of products you use the most, you can order cases when the prices are good.  In this way, you can purchase large quantities of items that you buy regularly anyway, and save money, too.  In addition, you can use manufacturer coupons on items purchased through a special order.

This all came to me as I was shopping recently.  The price on Goldfish crackers was really, really good – about 60 cents off the regular price.  My children LOVE Goldfish crackers.  I try to ration my purchases because they are expensive, but I still end up purchasing at least two bags a week.  If I could always get my Goldfish at the current price, it would save me at least $50 per year.  There were only a few bags on the shelf, and I hate being the person who clears a shelf.  I don’t spend enough time on base to check the stock every day while the price lasts.  And then it occurred to me!  I could special order tons of Goldfish!

The cashier provided me with the form and I made my request.  I’ll let you know if they arrive while the price is still good, and if anything interesting happens along the way.  Now, I’m off in search of Goldfish coupons.

You can do the same thing with any staple groceries that show up at a good shelf price.  This obviously won’t work for things that are in the dent-and-damage section, or items clearance due to short dates or being removed from the store’s regular stock.

Let me know if this works for you!
