15 October 2012 Military Pay

The next military payday is Monday, 15 October 2012.  Due to the Monday payday, and the policies and practices of some banks and credit unions, some people will get paid earlier than usual, and some people will get their pay early as usual, and some people will get paid on the actual Monday payday.

Many military friendly banks and credit unions offer early direct deposit of military pay as a courtesy to their active duty members.  Both  USAA and PMCU offer deposits one business day early.  One business day earlier than Monday is Friday, 12 October 2012.  Customers with these two banking institutions, plus others with one business day early policies, should see their pay deposited on Friday.

Service Credit Union offers their early direct deposit up to two business days early, pending receipt of the information from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS).  This can be trickier to predict, but last payday was also a Monday and Service CU released funds on the Thursday prior to the official payday.  If the same pattern holds true for this pay period, then Service CU members would see their deposits on Thursday, 11 October 2012.  However, I would not make any major banking decisions based upon this educated guess.  Prepare for the worst, that the deposit won't be available until Monday, and be pleased if your pay is available sooner.

Bank with Navy Federal Credit Union?  The date of your deposit depends on what type of account you use for your military pay deposits.   Members who have their pay deposited into an Active Duty Checking account should expect to see their pay pending on Thursday, 11 October 2012, to be posted overnight and available for use on Friday, 12 October 2012.  Members who have their pay deposited into any other type of account should expect to see their pay pending on Friday, 12 October 2012, to be posted overnight and available for use on Saturday, 13 October 2012.  Check out their  pay calendar for more info.

Don't forget this is a longer pay period!  The exact length will depend on your bank and it's posting policies, but we're looking at roughly 19 days for most people.

  • Don't forget - only five more paychecks until Christmas!  Plan now to prevent panic later.

What time will you get paid?  It can be any time, so don't worry.  See What Time Will I Get Paid?  for more information.
