USAA, Deployment, and Foreign Transaction Fees

Soldiers leave on deployment.

Because they are awesome, USAA offers a wide variety of benefits to help military service members and their families during a deployment.  I just recently learned of one new benefit that is pretty cool…USAA will waive  the foreign transaction fees on credit and debit card purchases for up to 12 months for deployed members.  Make sure to let them know that you are deploying in advance to be eligible for this waiver.

While you are preparing for deployment, you can use the handy-dandy checklists found at the USAA pre-deployment page to be sure you are hitting all the important legal, financial, insurance and account access issues that need to be addressed so that your are completely prepared for the events that might occur during your time away.  This includes information about general things and also USAA specific benefits and considerations.

My husband deployed a year ago and we were able to take advantage of this benefit from USAA. It was great! Also served us well when we met in Italy for his two weeks of leave in the middle.
