30 December 2011 Military Pay

The last 2011 military pay day is coming next week, and people are getting anxious.  Heck, even I am getting anxious.  We have spent a lot of money this month!

According to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), Leave and Earnings Statements (LES) should be available today.  However, they have been having technical difficulties today and many people are not yet able to access their LES.  Don't panic - it is just a temporary problem and it will not affect your payment.

The official payday is Friday, 30 December 2011.  Service members should receive their direct deposit no later than Friday, 30 December.  Many banks and credit unions offer early release of direct deposit funds as a courtesy to their customers.  If you know that your banking institution offers early release of funds, then you should expect to see your deposit on Thursday, 29 December 2011.  Banks that definitely offer early deposit include USAA and PMCU.  I'm sure there are more but those are the only two that I know for sure.

Navy Federal Credit Union members may receive their deposits early or on the regular payday, depending on which type of account they have.  If you have an Active Duty Checking account, you will see your deposit pending on Wednesday, 28 December and it will post overnight to be available on Thursday, 29 December.  If you have any other type of checking account, you will see your deposit pending on Thursday, 29 December and it will post overnight to be available on Friday, 30 December.  Remember that you can't spend a pending deposit!

Any more questions?  Put them in the comments and I'll see what I can find out for you.
