Charity Spotlight: Our Military Kids

I’ve got it in my head that I’m going to spotlight some of the many different military focused non-profit groups that are helping our troops and their families.  There are two aspects to this:  letting eligible beneficiaries know about the programs, and educating potential donors about worthwhile organizations.

This week, I’ve chosen Our Military Kids , a group that helps pay, up to $500,  for extra-curricular activities for the children of deployed National Guard and Reserve members.  These families are often far removed from military support services and can find their income reduced during a deployment.  Being able to enjoy fun activities helps the child and the rest of the family.  This program specifically targets a group that is sometimes left out of traditional military support programs.  Our Military Kids also makes similar grants available to the children of wounded warriors.

Our Military Kids is unique in that they’ve never denied a grant to an eligible child.  They have been able to do this due to the generosity of many donors.  They have extremely low expenses and over 95 cents of every dollar donated goes directly towards grants.  If you are looking for a military charity to support, please consider Our Military Kids.

I’m hoping someone can help lead me to an answer. I’m a member of a nonprofit organization and our mission is to fund the wishes of children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. While today we work with Make-A-Wish, Dream Factory and several other actual wish granting organizations, we are looking to see if there is a particular wish granting organization that specifically supports children with illnesses of the military. If you have any ideas, please reply to this post. Thank you.
