Trees For Troops Delivering Now

Right now, a great program called Trees for Troops is delivering Christmas trees to various bases around the country.

In the 1990s, several individual organizations and tree growers donated trees that were given to National Guard units and other military personnel who were deployed in peacekeeping efforts in Kosovo and other regions of the world.  In 2005, the National Christmas Tree Association created a charitable organization called the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation.  Through this foundation, they coordinated individual programs of tree growers and state Christmas Tree associations into a single, national program:  Trees for Troops.  The Christmas SPIRIT Foundation partnered with FedEx Corporation to deliver the trees from the tree farms to military bases.

Since 2005, more than 66,000 trees have been delivered to families at more than 50 different bases.  In 2009 alone, more than 16,000 trees were donated.  Some of the trees are sent to deployed units and the rest are donated to military families.
