Are you a military member who owns a home in Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Arlington County, Prince William County, or the City of Alexandria?  A group called Veterans Green Jobs is offering a fantastic program that provides veterans job training while improving the energy efficiency of your home, and it is FREE to the homeowner.

The Military Housing Energy Efficiency Project provides weatherization assessment and up to $4,000 worth of weatherization improvements to eligible active duty, Guard and Reserve families in the Northern Virginia area. Homes must meet the following criteria:  be less than 3000 square feet, have a single heating/air conditioning system, be in good working condition, and be owned by a military member.

More information can be found at the program's main page, FAQ page, or at the application.

I am so jealous - my house fits the criteria but we are not in one of those counties.  I hope that some of my readers are able to take advantage of this program - please forward it to your friends.

Projects are funded by a Sierra Club grant and all work is performed by veterans who are participating in the Veterans Green Jobs program.

"Veterans Green Jobs is a national nonprofit organization that provides green jobs education, transition support, and career and enterprise development opportunities for military veterans.

Founded in 2008, Veterans Green Jobs operates programs in a variety of green jobs fields, including home energy efficiency, renewable energy, land conservation and urban forestry. We believe that our nation’s military vets, equipped with the skills, tools and resources, can lead America’s transition to energy independence, ecological restoration, community renewal and economic prosperity." from the Veterans Green Jobs website
