MyCAA Future Still Uncertain

In a press release that was emailed last night, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell stated that Defense Secretary Robert Gates is still working on a solution to problems with the MyCAA program.  In the statement, Morrell states that the program had moved away from its original concept of providing quick certification in portable careers and that many participants were using MyCAA to supplement their long-term educational goals.  As a result, the program was overwhelmed.

I have lots of thoughts on this, and I'm sure you do, too.  I understand that the Department of Defense needs to limit the amount of support they are able to provide and that limiting the eligible programs is one way to limit the total cost of the program.  The MyCAA program is a generous offer from a financially challenged organization who doesn't have any obligation to provide financial assistance for spouses.  However, it is frustrating for the DOD to define what careers are portable and while probably unintentional, it seems like it is trying to force spouses into certain careers.

I'm sure the comments will be busy, so I'm going to let you take over the conversation.
