Looking for A New Idea

Managing your financial life can be a time-consuming effort, and there are going to be times when you don’t stick to your plans. This is one of those times for me: I’ve gotten off track in my efforts to write down everything I spend this month. I think I might need to try a new system; bringing the receipts home to record isn’t working, even with the snazzy notebook.

I would love to hear what tracking methods other people use. I’m clearly in need of a new direction and I don’t know where to start. Thanks for your help!

I have been using Mint.com to track my spending. I really like it and try to use my debit card whenever I can so it tracks my spending automatically.

Hi there! My husband and I use a loose form of the “Total Money Makeover” format. We budget and keep cash in separate envelopes. When the money’s gone, we have to take it out of another. Gas, food, entertainment, restaurants, “blow” (or what we call, our safety net haha) money, ect. is in cash. Everything else you pay as normal. We have our emergency fund instead of a CC, but that is our preference. The whole using cash thing has not done us wrong (I am so terrible at keeping track of things it’s ridiculous! I’m not a heavy spender but you know what I mean) Plus because we are consciously aware the money’s leaving, we spend less haha! Good luck!
